Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Kate McKennan

Having studied fine art at Manchester College of Art and achieved a 2:1 with DA Manchester, I taught in Brighton then returned to Manchester to gain a First Class Hons PGCE, and taught A Level Art at South Cheshire College. Subsequently, I moved to study psychology at M Ed level at Bangor University specialising in teaching dyslexic pupils.

Having returned to Brighton I worked as a private tutor to perceptually challenged individuals, and taught in college part time while exhibiting in Brighton and London. When we moved to Cardiff I was Assistant Director of an arts centre and exhibited at Chapter Arts. We moved back north to Wilmslow and since then I have exhibited widely in England, Wales, Europe and America while continuing to teach private classes.

During this time I have had numerous artists residencies and commissions. I have taught life drawing in Chester as well as in other establishments and I now live in Nantwich teaching life drawing from my studio. My work continues to develop as complex and perceptually challenging pieces. I am myself dyslexic and dyspraxic.
