Disabled Voices - 19th July to the 8th August 2010 - 23rd June 2010
My name is Genevieve Barr and I am a deaf actress who played the lead role in the BBC drama series ’The Silence’ alongside a stellar cast of Hugh Bonneville, Gina McKee, Douglas Henshall and Dervla Kirwan, directed by Bafta winning award director, Dearbhla Walsh.
It is my inspiration to get more disabled people into acting. Not only does it give an opportunity to develop core personable skills that help you make your mark in society, but it also is the chance to put together a production that showcases disabled talent and to celebrate differences and the huge amount disabled people have to offer outside of their disability.
So what do I want from you?
Two weeks of your time – four days a week in the period 19th of July to the 8th of August (official dates to be confirmed). North London based, near Old Street tube – the Rosebury Branch theatre welcomes you to it’s theatre space to rehearse and collaborate a production devised and performed by you with the support of our director giving you the best of their expertise and experience. Not only that, but we have a fantastic collection of industry experts from circus performers, dance teachers, acting and voice coaches, and other practitioners who are prepared to come in and offer their time to help develop you into being a better actor and more rounded individual.
Best of all, it’s free. I will provide communication support, for those who need it. I will also do my best to reimburse you of the access requirements you have – but that is dependent on the size of the budget. What I can offer is a fantastic experience with a great bunch of people and the opportunity for you to show the public what you have to offer. Please contact me at cheekygen@hotmail.com if you are interested.
This is targeted at 15-25 year olds, but if you are outside of that age category or are interested in volunteering your time, expertise or have any queries, I’m all ears!
