SID - Shropshire Inclusive Dance

All Projects

Ray Jacobs and Rachel Liggitt established Shropshire Inclusive Dance (SiD) in 2012.

SiD is comprised of independent movement artists committed to inclusive dance practice. As a collective, we wish for Shropshire to be a place where dance can thrive and where expertise, ideas, resources and the joy of moving together can be shared.

To date we have delivered a number of creatively driven and inspired projects. Just a small example include; a flash mob in Shrewsbury Square involving people of all ages and abilities; a family project 'Dancing Together At Last'; and most recently, 'An Open Sky', performed by Contact dance at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester.

Contact dance is open to disabled and non-disabled people. The group meets weekly to develop dance skills and share our enjoyment of dance. We also make and perform work emerging from specific projects; working intensely over a pre-defined period of time.

SiD also works in partnership to design tailored training packages and dance projects; and related services that specifically address people's needs and aspirations. We have recently been successful in a bid to deliver dance to disabled children and young people through The Short Breaks programme in Telford and Wrekin.

Core members of SiD (Ray Jacobs, Rachel Liggitt and Anna Belyavin) have rich, varied and thriving careers as artists and educators within their own right. SiD enables members and participants to collaborate, support one another and dance together.
