Open Call for Project Proposals
DASH are looking for proposals from UK-based artists and makers for our new online art project; ‘Worlds Within Worlds’.
We want to commission 3 artists to deliver 3 workshops each, over a 3 week period between March - June 2021. DASH will support each artist in delivering their vision by providing training and guidance.
Deadline for Applications is: Midnight, 18 January 2021.
*Please find links to our Easy Read version, How to Apply, Quick Application Form and Equality monitoring form at the bottom of this page.
2020 has seen our worlds shrink as a result of the Covid pandemic. For many, Zoom has become our new ‘window’ into the outside world. The shift into this ‘new normal’ has made both positive and negative changes in our lives and cultural experiences. Many community and participatory art projects have become unviable. However, many disabled and isolated artists have seen more online communities and opportunities become accessible. Now, more than ever, our homes have become our creative space.
How might you use your creative skills to imagine and make a new world within the walls of your own home? Could you inspire a group of young disabled artists to do the same? We want to hear fun, playful and inspiring ideas on ways you might create a ‘world within a world’!
Leading your project over 3 weeks, what might these worlds within worlds look like? If you have an idea, we want to hear from you. For example:
- You might be an installation artist - who imagines your students making a dream-inspired canopy, complete with cotton-wool clouds
- You could be a set designer - who imagines guiding your group to re-create a scene from their favourite book or film
- You might be a performance or conceptual artist, who works with the students to create site-specific pieces of work
The possibilities are endless.
DASH is a Disabled led visual arts organisation and especially welcome proposals from artists who define themselves as D/deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia etc). We are particularly hoping to commission artists from all underrepresented groups and backgrounds.
We’d love to hear ideas from a range of people - such as artists, workshop leaders, designers, and digital creatives. For example, you might have experience working in:
- Optical or immersive art
- Performance art
- Digital art
- Set design and installation art
- Sound and light art
- Site-specific art
- Events planning
- Festival and club night events and experiences
- Community projects
- Interior design
- Animation and film
- Craft and textiles
- Virtual reality
- Conceptual art
- Fine art or illustration
- Creative storytelling
Whether you’re an early stage or a more established creative, you will gain methods in optimising the access of your practise in a workshop setting. Working with 8 students (aged 16-25) over Zoom, you’d be leading your workshops with as much support from DASH as you require. This opportunity includes one-to-one sessions to aid you in planning and delivering your creative vision.
By the end of the project, you will have enabled your students to create their very own world within worlds. If you have experience in leading or supporting workshops, or working in education and community settings, then this will support your application.
However, the success of applications will be based on merit, not on formal qualifications. DASH is committed to diversifying the visual arts sector - by working to increase access and representation.
We are offering £600 per commission. The fee is based on around 10 hours of your time. There is an extra budget for art materials. The 10 hours include your commitment to deliver your project (over 3 workshops) and to attend:
- 1 training session - Planning Inclusive Workshops
- 1 workshop planning session - Active Learning through Art
The training and planning sessions will take place in February/March 2021 over Zoom with DASH. We will strive to make dates and times as convenient as possible.
