CVAN Better Together #14

Better Together #14: Strengthening the Art Technical Workforce | Sustainable, Fair & Inclusive Practices

Date: Tuesday, 16 December 2025,
Time: 1pm – 2pm
Where: Online

In this sector-focused session we will discuss how arts organisations can better support the technical workforce.

Join Sarah Titheridge and Phill Wilson-Perkin, experienced art technicians, teachers, and organisers of the BECTU Art Technicians Branch for December’s Better Together. In this sector-focused session we will discuss how arts organisations can better support the technical workforce that underpins every successful exhibition, project, public programme and collection.

Drawing on decades of hands-on experience and national sector development work, this session explores the urgent issues facing technicians today: job insecurity, inconsistent pay, install clashes, limited training, and the ongoing loss of skilled workers from the field.

Together, we will unpack:

- Fair pay, tiered systems & workforce development

- Skills mapping, databases & safer staffing

- Building and supporting your freelance pool

- Improving communication & collaboration across the sector

Hosted by Contemporary Visual Arts Network East Midlands (CVAN EM) & CVAN WM Bi-monthly Better Together sessions are framed by a different urgent topic that is relevant to the East and West Midlands and wider arts and culture sector.
