Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Rachel Boyd: Curator

A warm welcome to Rachel Boyd, who joins Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) as Future Curator through the DASH Future Curators Programme.

Rachel's research explores how artistic labour can be articulated within archival contexts, with a particular focus on how supported practice is represented in the disability arts movement.

She is currently undertaking an AHRC-funded PhD at Northumbria University in collaboration with the Laing Art Gallery centring on the practice of the disabled artist and curator Nerys Johnson (1942–2001).

Rachel will be using her time with the Future Curators Programme to demonstrate how disability-led approaches can expand a public understanding of what archives can be: particularly as MIMA approaches its twentieth anniversary next year.
