Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Transform National

We're delighted to announce the launch of Transform National – a new two-year leadership and organisational development programme investing in the next generation of Executive Directors in the visual arts.

Delivered through a partnership between New Art Exchange, CVAN England and DASH (Disability Arts in Shropshire), Transform National will support talented leaders from underrepresented communities through paid senior leadership placements, mentoring and professional development. Alongside this, the programme works with visual arts organisations to strengthen inclusive leadership, organisational culture and sustainable change.

By investing in both people and organisations, we're helping to build a stronger, more representative and more resilient visual arts sector.

“Talent exists in every community — what has too often been missing is a fair route into leadership. That’s why we are proud to fund Transform National programme. It meets this challenge head-on, building leadership pathways shaped by underrepresented leaders and grounded in lived experience.

By combining paid executive placements with real organisational and cultural change, the programme tackles a long-standing gap in our sector, creating the conditions where the next generation of leaders can not only enter the field, but thrive and shape its future. This is a vital investment to support a future visual arts sector that becomes more equitable, more representative, and more resilient”

Abid Hussain, Director of Diversity and Peter Heslip, Director, Visual Art

The programme has been supported by funding from Arts Council England’s Major Project strand and the Art Fund’s Reimagine.
