Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Becky Beasley

Becky Beasley (she/her) is a visual artist with an international profile. She is Professor of Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London and is represented internationally by Romanian founded and led, Gallery Plan B, Berlin and Francesca Minini Gallery, Milan. Beasley received an autism diagnosis in 2021 and is a passionate role model and advocate for autism understanding.

“DASH’s research into why experienced individuals with much to offer like myself are under-represented in leadership roles was the primary reason I pursued a Trustee position”.

Since my own late autism diagnosis five years ago, I have been supported by, and closely followed the work of DASH and its evolution under recent leadership. Its current work, which sits on the shoulders of DASH’s former founders, governors, and elders - is vital and inspiring. DASH is special. It sees and feels what is needed to empower the most vulnerable and create equality of opportunity.

I have always believed deeply in the central importance of the arts within our society and how everyday culture is expressed. I am focused on bridging silos and offering new, gentler language, accessible to the mainstream. Once shifts in mainstream occur, real progress for all happens. I am passionate about working towards new support structures and protocols for artists as well as those in key leadership roles.

Female autistic profiling - which affects many identities - is relatively recent. I have been a strong advocate and role model for the last five years since my own diagnosis, using my practice, educational role and online social media profiles to create awareness, empowerment and understanding.

Access equity for art school education as well as academic partnerships and academic research and funding opportunities are central to my Trustee vision going forward. I will bring my passion for academic research and practice partnerships into my work as a DASH Trustee.”
