MIMA to host Turner Prize
The annual Turner Prize, organised by Tate, showcases and celebrates the most exciting new developments in British art. It aims to promote public debate around new developments in contemporary British art.
It is one of the world’s leading artistic accolades and is awarded annually to a British visual artist. ‘British’ can mean an artist working primarily in Britain or an artist born in Britain working globally.
It is named for the nineteenth-century artist JMW Turner, who was innovative and controversial in his own day.
Each year the Turner Prize jury shortlist four artists for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation.
The prize has helped launch the careers and reputations of numerous internationally renowned artists. Previous winners include Damien Hirst, Steve McQueen, Lubaina Himid and most recently, Jasleen Kaur.
The Turner Prize exhibition will open at MIMA in autumn 2026.
