Cultivating spaces for extraordinary artists

Future Curator Cohort Complete!

DASH is delighted to announce that the cohort of six disabled curators as part of our Future Curators Programme is now complete. They are: Nathalie Boobis, Ashanti Hare, Eve Hines-Braham, Jess Starns, Mariana Lemos and Rachel Boyd.

The Future Curators Programme is a transformative residency programme that places disabled curators within mainstream visual arts institutions, founded and led by DASH, generously funded by Arts Council England, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, and the Art Fund.

Our seven brilliant and engaging partners are Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA); Wysing Arts Centre; Midlands Arts Centre (MAC); Arts Catalyst; Disability Arts Online; Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange, and John Hansard Gallery.

Each of the six talented curators are not only developing their own practice but reshaping the future of the visual arts. Together they represent a growing community of disabled cultural workers claiming space, influence and leadership in a sector that has too often excluded disabled people from positions of power.

A key aim of the Future Curators Programme is to effect meaningful change in the visual arts sector. It is about redistributing power, challenging whose knowledge is valued and demonstrating that disability justice is not an aspiration but a way of working.

Heather Peak, Artist/CEO/Artistic Director of DASH, said:

"We are excited to announce our complete cohort of talented curators, but this is only the beginning. The Future Curators Programme is about shifting power, not simply opening doors. It shows what becomes possible when disabled people are trusted, invested in and supported to lead. Our hope is that this program leaves a legacy that reaches far beyond these six curators and challenges the whole visual arts sector to rethink who holds power, who gets to curate our cultural narratives and who gets to imagine our collective futures."

Please join us in congratulating Nathalie, Ashanti, Eve, Jess, Mariana and Rachel as our Future Curators. We are excited for what happens next!
